SPX Flow Pneumatic Products (PPC) Desiccant

CDA Systems and SPX Flow work closely with our customers to find the best solutions for your adsorptive media (desiccant) needs to insure the air quality the plant and tools demand. SPX Flow and CDA Systems can deliver desiccant dryers to most specifications.

Activated Alumia is sifted for precise bead size and formulated for optimal moisture removal. It is the desiccant of choice for critical drying applications. Depending on your application, it can be a reliable, economical alternative to DE-4 premium alumina.

SPX and CDA Systems also offers desiccant test kits. They are available for testing the performance and the existing life of your activated alumina. This test kit provides valuable independent test data on key performance characteristics of your alumina desiccant. Knowing the condition of your dryer’s bed allows you to prevent costly down time and plan maintenance.

Silica Gel has high capacity and hydro- thermal stability, making it a good choice for internally heat regenerative dryers in combination with a polishing layer of molecular sieve. It has the highest adsorption capacity in heat regenerated dryers due to high loading rates and relative humidity (approximately 15% greater than alumina). It also breaks down in the presence of liquid water and is resistant to hydro-thermal aging promoting longer desiccant life.

Water Resistant Silica Gel is another great option for many of CDA Systems and SPX’s Desiccant customers. Its long-term hydro-thermal stability makes water resistant silica gel a good choice for heat of compression and other heated dryers that are regenerated at pressure. Silica Gel has a wide range of relative humidity that provides optimum moisture removal. It will not break down in the presence of liquid water and is highly resistant to hydro-thermal aging, providing longer life in heated desiccant dryers

Molecular Sieve is the final polishing layer in internally heated desiccant dryers (-40°F & -100°F)
It’s used in applications involving the exclusion of certain molecules from the adsorption surface, e.g. drying natural gas with minimal odorant removal. It offers superior performance when the air has been pre-dried, often used at the outlet end of the heatless dryer vessel when air must be dried to very low dew points (-100°F range)

Bed Support is a non-adsorptive material used to prevent smaller desiccant beads from obstructing the lower desiccant retaining screen. It is used in the lower vessel head to promote even flow distribution, reduce pressure drop and minimize channeling. It’s placed at the top of the desiccant bed to promote even flow distribution and prevent fluidization of the active desiccant. Bed Support has virtually no adsorption capacity.

Activated Carbon is the polishing layer for odor and oil vapor removal commonly used in breathing air, semi-conductor & pharmaceutical applications. It’s used as a removal of mild caustics/acids detrimental to desiccant performance. It’s also used in conjunction with higher adsorption materials prior to the carbon. Activated Carbon has a very high capacity for organic vapors, making it the choice for odor-free applications. It has oil vapor and odor removal capabilities and can remove a broad range of contaminants.
