How to Motivate Your Employees To Report Air Leaks

The term ‘air leak’ is one that people who work with air compressors are probably all too familiar with. When left unrepaired, they can cause problems and effect the system efficiency in its entirety.

A big reason why air leaks go unrepaired so often is simple: they’re not identified.

With the frequency at which air leaks occur, it’s quite unreasonable to leave the identifying and repair of them to the plant manager alone as others feel they don’t have time to deal with them.

Why not make it a team task?

How to Motivate Your Employees to Report Air Leaks

Make identifying air leaks everyone’s responsibility. Do this effectively by implementing a rewards-based program of sorts.

An incentive that is positively received varies from person to person. Ideally, the reward should be dependent on the employee.

These ideas can be executed over a stipulated period of time or on a ‘one-time’ basis.

Traditional Competition

Traditional competitions are still popular today because of how effective they are at getting results. The employee who identifies and reports the most air leaks is the winner of the competition & recipient of the reward.

Random Draw

Everyone who reports an air leak gets entered into a lucky draw. You can ensure that employees are working at this task diligently by instating some kind of entry requirement to the lucky draw, such as: in order to be entered a minimum of five air leaks need to be identified and reported.

Why These Are Great Ideas

Besides the obvious reason of increased air leaks reported, there are many other reasons why you should consider implementing one of these ideas.

Employee Appreciation

Make your employees feel valued. Your employees will feel like this mammoth task can’t be accomplished without them and that they are a vital cog in a well-oiled machine.

Boost Morale

Sometimes work can feel like, well, work. By introducing a fun, rewards-driven activity to your employees’ daily work life you’re bound to see more smiling faces.

Increases Productivity

There’s no denying it, people work extra hard for extra rewards.

Internal Competitiveness

Nothing gets those competitive juices flowing like a competition. Watch your employees place bets amongst themselves to heighten the level of competition that has already been instilled.
